Navigate your way into Armada

What is Star Wars: Armada?

Star Wars: Armada is a tabletop miniatures strategy wargame developed and owned by Fantasy Flight Games / Atomic Mass Games. Players command fleets of capital ships, starfighter squadrons, and iconic characters in tactical space combat set in the Star Wars universe.

Players also build fleets using a points system, then issue commands and engage in objective-driven combat where long-term planning and positioning are more important than quick reactions.

What all has happened to the game?

The main thing that has happened is that official support and development for Star Wars: Armada has ended. Since then, the community has stepped in to keep the game alive and growing.

If it's been a while since you last played, or you're curious about Armada's history, you may want to checkout our Armada timeline.

What is Armada Community Edition?

Armada Community Edition is a community-developed set of expansions and balance changes to Star Wars: Armada. The Community Edition is maintained by dedicated players after official development ended in 2024. Two formerly indepdendent community projects have merged to form the Community Edition - ARC and Armada Legacy.

Armada Community is a fan-made project (with no affiliation with Lucasfilm Ltd., Atomic Mass Games, or Fantasy Flight Games) focused on preserving and supporting the game through updated rules, new content, and organized play.

Why play this game?

Armada rewards thoughtful planning and strategic decision making. It would be a good fit for you if you enjoy deep strategy, meaningful fleet building, and large-scale battles set in the Star Wars universe.

Most importantly, this game has a large, vibrant, and welcoming community dedicated towards maintaining, preserving, and expanding the game for years to come. Whether you enjoy competitive gameplay with a rich meta and high skill ceiling or narrative and thematic play that recreates famous Star Wars moments, there is a community with a place for you.

What do you need to play?

There are a few main paths to getting the components to play:

  • Purchase an official or second-hand core set if you can get your hands on one.
  • Buy a used fleet from a player downsizing their collection.
  • Buy third party “Community-sponsored” components from online retailers.
  • Use a 3D printer and a paper printer to print all game materials at home.
  • Purchase a “Community Starter Kit”.

You will need:

  1. A fleet of your choice, which includes upgrade cards, ship and squadron bases, and models.
  2. Dice (either standard D8s in 3 colors, or official Star Wars: Armada dice).
  3. Tokens of various shapes and sizes.
  4. Rulers.
  5. Check out Downsizeit's Star Wars Armada Introduction video here for an overview of the components and game rules!

If you have players in your local area, asking them to borrow or purchase some unused materials is the best way to get started. If you want to see if there is a community near you, check out our directory of communities here!
