Legacy Wave 1 Release

After over a year of development, 3 months in open beta, and help from dozens of members of the community, Armada Legacy Wave 1 is officially live!

Just like last wave, we've commissioned STLs in the FFG style for both the Arquitens and Pinnace cruiser, you can find links to purchase those from the sculptor and our other vendors on the resources page. In addition, we've leveled up our internal art workflow to produce higher quality card art, as well as commissioned art pieces for our two commanders and one of the Pinnace titles. We want to continue the production quality you know and expect from us and keep pushing new ground.

With the start of the new year in 2026, we have a full roadmap planned to continue delivering high quality content, but also events, campaigns, and even a Legacy tournament! More on these things later, it's time for some design notes.

Design Notes

This wave's scope was intended to be a little larger than Wave 0 as our first return to an "FFG-styled" wave, and development was split between the new ships, their titles, and commanders, vs the titles covering the Rapid Reinforcements content, the Combat Interdictor, and MC80 Command.

Legacy Wave 1 Ships & Titles

Legacy Wave 1 Ships & Titles

The Republic Arquitens has two distinct variants, the Assault Cruiser, focused on close range firepower, boarding teams and acting as a carrier in Yularen fleets, and the Escort Cruiser, a more reliable workhorse of the Republic Navy. While the dice colors are distinct from the Imperial versions, the arc lines and dice quantity in each hull zone remains the same, with a little boost to their flak capabilities. They are accompanied by Admiral Coburn, the Republic's first true navigation admiral (sorry Bail you don't count) focusing entirely on ships that are already weak at turning. He is conditional and requires careful obstacle placement, but you can get a lot out of him.

The CIS Pinnace is kind of an "Arquitens-lite" for the Separatists. It has largely Arquitens arcs, but with a separatist twist, a relatively flexible upgrade suite, and represents a cheaper and more manueverable small for CIS fleets than the Hardcells focused on close and medium range respectively. With two dice in the rear and a salvo, while they're fragile, they can hit like a truck for their points cost. They are accompanied by Poggle the Lesser, an admiral who helps CIS small ships (and their flagship) be more survivable by granting obstruction against a ship or squadron when discarding a command token on the defending ship. He is situationally strong, but requires a limited resource and it's quite easy to overload his command token economy.

The titles for the Arquitens and Pinnace split between boosting the ship's core role in a fleet and giving them additional options for support.

Legacy Wave 1 Upgrades

Legacy Wave 1 Upgrades

The titles for the Rapid Reinforcements ships were designed with each of their respective ships in mind, and chose to lean into their core gimmicks. Arlionne allows a Victory who is already taking damage and has exhausted defense tokens to punch up on its way out. Insatiable allows the CIS Gozanti to be greedy, and suffer a damage on itself to change the die added from AI Battery to a die of any color. Rebel One gives the Providence a defensive and offensive ability that heavily leans into it's odd upgrade bar and enables other admirals than Agate to take advantage of the ship chassis for its quirks. And Intrepid gives the Imperial Venator an additional contain token, allowing it to spend contain tokens to reduce damage on generic squadrons (analogous to Axe), or use other upgrades such as Captain Needa and Local Fire Control to replace the contain with a salvo for a punchy 5-token Venator.

Lastly, two GCW ships that often receive requests for reworks are the Combat Interdictor and the MC80 Command. Each has an ability that leans into quirks of the ship, Battle Cruiser grants the Interdictor a turbolaser slot and salvo, and Nautilian both gives the Command Cruiser a fleet command slot, but also allows it to exhaust the title to resolve the effect of other generic titles, such as MC80 Exodus Fleet and the Hammerhead Task Forces, allowing for some interesting fleet combinations.

This wave is a big boost to our beloved Republic and CIS factions, and we're just getting started. Expect to see something quite *Dread*ful in the near future.

You can read some of our design goals for each of the cards in the wave in the Wave 1 FAQ, alongside the full blogpost article, documents, and resource links in the releases tab under legacy-wave-1. Happy hunting!
